Description

Well, this is another one of a hornet. This time it wasn't bored! They were bringing food into the nest! I saw, and photographed (will maybe post later) them bringing pieces of bugs, eating, feeding each other and then taking some chunks inside the hive.
This little fellow was assigned to watch me as they proceeded their daily tasks, he just stayed there watching me and every time I made a faster move he went airborne! As I stepped aside he landed and resume his job of watching me. That allowed me to take some shots of him!
Doesn't he looks like he is defending the others?

Please please, see the bigger version!

Cool shot

I feel compositionwise, the one of your big thumbnail is better.

There is now too much distraction in the background and missing a clear focalpoint

The colours are nice:)

Maybe I can desaturate the BG a little... But I think that would mes the colour of this one. I know what you mean, the BG is a bit distracting, but the idea here was to show the hive entrance with all the hornets coming in and out. Next one will be better! The focus was intended to be bang on the head... don't know if that's very clear... see the bigger version!
Thanks Wallace!

Good shot. I prefer this to the other... although, as said, the background is quite distracting. I like the orange colours. 7/7

I'm not the master of macro shots but I would prefer a more simple background. It is still a very cool shot as a composition. +9

The hornet looks great! Like he's defending indeed
Agree about the bg, but it also adds to the "guard" idea like you mentioned.. so I'm not sure :)
Very nice colors!

Bigger version is really better imo!!
I think square crop & smaller aparture(for shorter DOF) would be better

Agree with Jafus.

bg and fg is not working for me, a much tighter crop whould be better.

is there any more on the bottom of this image ? as in do you have the full reflection of the guy looking at you ?
Good image..

A great shot Vasco. While I find it interesting to see the blurred hornet on the right, I think you should crop it out. This will put more emphasis on Mr. What Are You Looking At.

I looked at it again and I think you should leave the bg like this! My attention was drawed to the blurred hornet, but then I saw the defender again looking "at me" like: yeah, see them?.. BACK OFF :p
