Description

My first post as a Yellow jacket! Thank you all for that!

Not sure this is Elite stuff, but It's been a while since my last post, and I decided that I had to post sth! Haven't had the time to do new photo these past few days, lots of work, everybody is on vacations and the few of us that aren't on vacations now have to work for 3 or 4 persons!
Taken in the same day as Broken Heart by Elite Vasco and as that one this had almost no post process.

Camera: Olympus E330
Lens: 40-150 mm Zuiko Digital
Focal Length: 150mm
Mode: Aperture priority
F: 4.5
Shutter: 1/250
Contrast: High
Saturation: High
Sharpness: Hard

Leave a line or two!
(I had wrong thumbs on this one! The previous ones were from the first of the series! Sorry for that! Proper ones have been uploaded!)

Lovely macro!

Looks sharp at the essential parts and with lots of details.

You deserve the recognition!

The yellow suit fits well on you!!

You are a good and humble person who contribute greatly to gfx and can accept others opinion when receiving critique.

...Which is not the case for all as it appears... :p

Congrats Vasco, well deserves, and you should get the GFX award for your activity here.

Good capture. You're making the best out of this lens.

@LoStSidE - I'm aware of the corner I tried to do sth about it... but every change I tried made it look unnatural, and with this series, my goal was to keep it as natural and unedited as possible. And at the time I couldn't have tried anything different with the settings, I think! A different F value would made the shutter slower and I needed the fast shutter to freeze the wings as much as possible, they were always flapping them to maintain balance, and exposure compensation... well if I went to a - compensation I think the blue would end too darker! It's a negative aspect that I have to keep!

@Moser - Thanks for the words! I think Gfx is a place to learn, and I think I have learned a lot reading comments, in mine and on others works! And I also know that I don't know everything! As someone said, "I just know that I don't know anything!"

Again, thanks to all of you who view and comment on my work!

this is a great shot.. l Love the composition and the colours.. perfect..

and the someone who knew, that he don't know anything was Socrates..

Avatar Vasco

@rifty - The Portuguese prime minister! I knew he didn't knew anything! I think a six years old could do better than him!
Just Joking with my prime minister José Socrates! He is a joke so I can make jokes of him!
Thanks rifty!

Don´t bring José Socrates to a such a nice photo, it kills the mood. lool

About what you said, a faster shuter speed whould reduce the light and at the same time freeze the wings even more. right?

oh and btw i've said it before to you but just to state it out in your first golden photo. you did deserve the elite status ;)

A very good capture!! Noticing the camera settings of high contrast, saturation, and hard sharpness, I wonder why you choose those settings in the camera. I think the photo does show all those elements a bit harshly. I'd recommend doing those adjustments in the post-processing as you can fine tune them a bit more in a good photo program rather than in the limited software available in the camera. Just a thought.
A very good first post elite image! :)

Wow!!.....an excellent capture!......great details!!
beautiful colors!
Maybe I find a little distracting the leaf at the right lower corner......maybe I would work it in a separate layer and tone down the highlights.
Great work Vasco!
Congratulations for the elite position!....you deserve it!

@LoStSidE - A faster shutter would make it darker on the dragonfly's as well. I think I'll have another go at it and use Master Carlos suggestion...

@Gary - Thanks for the suggestions, I'll change the settings and see if like the end result

Nice capture Vasco. This is a species of Jewelwing of the genus Calopteryx. It's always a plus to capture natural behavior of animals.
